Black Cat Oil Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

And yet another painting from the Tish photo, this one 8 x 8 inches on canvas board.  I'm adding this one to my series of 8 x 8 paintings for the October art show.  I want to hang all the 8 x 8s in a row together if possible.

Black Cat Oil Painting - Original Loose Sketchy Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

Another portrait of the Tish Squish today.  Her face is endlessly fascinating to me.  This original oil painting is 8 by 8 inches on archival gesso board.

Black Cat Original Oil Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

Another painting of my favorite model the squishy Tishy.  This is a little painting for a change, 8 x 8 inches.  I have a box of black plein air frames that are 8 x 8 inches so I thought I would paint up some black cat paintings to fit them for the October art show.

Another HUGE Black Cat Painting - Big Tish by Diane Irvine Armitage

I finished the second version of Big Tish today.  I'm happy with it :-) Tish has such a wide-eyed curious look all the time with those big round eyes.  I think she is part Bombay kitty with the round eyes and the triangular face.  While I was painting today, she and Luna were in the catio and kept scratching at the studio window, barely letting me get any work done.  I can't let them in the studio because that is Pandora's territory and they are dying to get in here and get all over everything.  This original oil painting on canvas is 24 by 48 inches - a very big Tish!

Big Black Cat Original Oil Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

I'm working on another of my BIG black cat paintings.  This is a bigger version of the Big Tish painting I did recently.  I want to have one of these Big Tish paintings for the October black cat art show and keep the other one.  I'm not sure which one I will keep - we'll see.  This version is 24 x 48 inches - BIG!  The last version was 18 x 36 inches.  As usual, Tishy is super fun to paint.  Love that face!  More on this one tomorrow ...

Antique Wood Keepsake Box with Hand Painted Black Cat Decoration

It's been two weeks since my last painting and I have missed the time spent in the studio.  I had to do some gardening and I spent some time listing books for sale on amazon, so some things got done that needed doing.

Today I painted one of my favorite cat images on an antique keepsake box.  I have been wanting to do some hand painted antique items, small things like old wooden boxes and also small furniture items like small cabinets.
I like the old ghostly mirror on the inside of this pretty box!
I have always loved it when artists decorated furniture with their paintings, like the Pre-Raphaelites and Arthur and Lucia Mathews.  So I think I will be on the lookout for fun old pieces I can add some black cats to!

Large Black Cat Original Oil Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

Today's BIG black cat painting is 24 x 36 inches - that's a big cat face!  Painted from yesterday's study, I am happy with the results.  It is fun to paint big!

Cat Painting - Black Cat Original Oil Painting by Diane Irvine Armitage

Another sketchy, loose oil painting of a black cat, 11 x 14 inches on archival gessoboard.  A study for a larger painting which I will start tomorrow.  I think I will leave in more of the body at the bottom for the larger version.  I'm happy with the overall sketchy appearance of this one.  Kind of like the look of a pastel painting, but done in oils.

Cat Painting - Black Cat Eye Closeup by Diane Irvine Armitage

Today's painting is 11 x 14, a closeup of a black cat face.  I block in the colors I see, squinting down to get the right values and then I put in some sketchy bits with a smaller brush.
